Urban Creek Fly Fishing Back to the Basics Northwest Arkansas

Sometimes you just need to keep it simple—this episode was all about getting back to the basics of creek adventures.

It’s always funny when you meet someone on a small urban creek and they assume there’s nothing in the water. No fish, or at least nothing worth chasing. But these creeks can teach you a lot—and surprise you if you let them.

Even with the sound of cars buzzing by, there’s something special about wading through a creek, exploring every pool and pocket. Whether you’re fly fishing or using conventional gear, these tight quarters force you to get better—learning to cast under branches, around cover, and becoming more technical with every shot.  I really enjoyed my time out there. I hope you find your own little urban oasis. Get out and get lost.

My Leader/Tippet Setup:

The butt section was Cortland’s Fluorocarbon XTR Leader Material 10lb | 3-foot section to micro swivel and then for my tippet I used Cortland’s Ultra Premium Fluorocarbon 5X Tippet about a 2-foot section. I then tied on a dropper with about 12 to 14 inches with 5X.
