The Day the Dogs Finally Picked Me

Hey friends! I don’t usually talk about stuff like this, but I figured I’d share a recent change in my life.

For years I’ve just kind of accepted my situation. At first it was a little frustrating. Eventually I learned to live with the pain… the rejection… the quiet understanding that I was simply not the favorite. I tried to connect. Tried to build that bond. But in the end, the decision had been made.

You see, we have two rescue dogs. They’re a huge part of our family—but in this house my wife is basically Bo Peep and those dogs are her sheep. They follow her everywhere… and I mean everywhere.

When she goes to work, they literally lay on her side of the bed and wait for her to get home. I’m in the same house… sitting there… and they’re just like, “Nah, we’ll wait for Mom.” Cold world, folks.

But something strange happened.

Yesterday… both of them curled up in my office. Then tonight… they did it again. I didn’t know what to do. Honestly it felt weird. I just sat there trying not to move like I might scare them off or ruin the moment.

But man… it made me happy.

I love these dogs, and I know they love me too—but this felt like a little breakthrough. Sometimes with everything going on in the world, it’s the small, unexpected things that can make your whole day.

So don’t forget to pay attention when those little moments show up.

Thanks for listening. -Paul
