📝 The Backcast (Episode Overview):

What an incredible couple of days at Roaring River. Honestly, I think I spent more time meeting people than I did fishing—and I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m beyond blessed to have met so many of you. I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend on the water.

For those that don't know from the second Friday in November through the second Monday in February, fishing at Roaring River is catch-and-release only, with hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Remember, you’ll need a Missouri fishing permit and an annual trout permit—but no park tag is required during this period.

This is “Flies Only” during this period. My son and I rolled in around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, and I didn’t even make my first cast until about 11. Those first two and a half hours were just awesome—handing out CASTAFLY t-shirts and stickers, shaking hands, and chatting with friends and followers. I was blown away by how many folks came up just to say hello. I dropped Conner off at the CCC Lodge for the fly-tying session the park was hosting.

@rubeoonthefly42069  drove down from KC to fish and even joined the tying session, spending time at the vise with Conner. He’s been tying steady for months now, and I’m incredibly proud of how far he’s come—he’s really loving it.

Big shout-out to David  @TieWithFish  who really helped Conner on the vise early on and truly got him interested. Once I finally rigged up, I started the day with streamers and did well, then switched to a stimulator, and eventually moved to big stoneflies and chubbies.

The fish were active, the water was perfect, and it was just one of those days where everything felt right. Huge thank you to everyone who came out. Meeting all of you made this weekend truly special. Can’t wait to see you again on the water.
