One Fly Pattern All Summer Chasing Ozark Smallmouth
Share
Another summer has come and gone, and autumn is definitely settling in here in the Ozarks. In this episode, we’re taking a look back at some of the incredible fish I caught while fly fishing the stunning streams of the Ozarks this summer.
The interesting part? I spent nearly the entire summer fishing with just one fly pattern. It took patience, focus, and a lot of commitment to stick with it.
Sure, I tried other patterns here and there, but I kept coming back to the same one—a single pattern and color variation that worked all summer long for both smallmouth and Neosho bass.
This summer, I didn’t just learn how and where to fish this fly. I also honed my casting and mending techniques, which helped me improve on the water and, naturally, land more fish.
My go-to streamer was the Roo’s Deceiver, tied on a 1/0 hook size by Hoot’s Custom Flies. I had the most success with the chartreuse and white version, but the olive color worked well too. I hope you had an incredible summer doing what you love. As always, thank you so much for the support and for watching. -Paul
